A Mamak & Spanish Affair

Posted by Perrinator on February 11, 2010 under Outings/Functions

Ah yes…depression can sometimes be destructive or do wonders… or make you go on a shopping spree or go berserk on food. Well, this time, the temporary cure for it is to have a mamak and Spanish affair… (before you start thinking otherwise…) A mamak and Spanish FOOD affair with a bunch of chicas! LOL!

Well, there was a live jazz band playing yesterday at La Bodega (The Lounge, Bangsar) and I was accompanied by two equally crazy señoritas for the 9.30pm showcase. We arrived earlier than expected, so we hang around at Bangsar Village (OMG, I just LOVE the supermarket there!!!) and then…had our dinner at a mamak restaurant! Err, Hazel was the hungry one, and if we were to dine at La Bodega at 9pm, I think she’d probably faint.

** Imagine everything in slow-mo **
<** Hazel is fainting…she’s gonna hit the bricks… Swwoossshhh…oh, it’s a plane! Oh no, it’s a bird! Oh my, it’s Nik-The-Bf!! And he’s not wearing his underwear outside like Superman did. Saved Hazel in time and bring her to Happy Land…

Ehhh EHHH!! Apa ni? Come back! Oiii! Terbang balik sini! Don’t rampas her for our chicas outing! **>

I must say, I have not eaten mamak food for a very long time. So once we ordered our food, (mine’s Nasi Briyani with chicken) our dinner were served on banana leaves! I was being chided by these chicas for not being a true Malaysian because…I ate with a fork and a spoon instead of using my hands (I swear I saw that Indian waiter looking at me in a weird way. Perhaps he’s never seen a human pig eating with a fork and spoon) …and I skipped out on the spicy stuff and that weird-looking fried chilis. Hehehe…

Then we strolled along the Bangsar street, stumbled upon another Spanish restaurant (I’m definitely going to that one some other day!), went into a stationery store to buy some stuff, finally arrived at our destination…and I mistakenly led these chicas up to a Balinese spa! Oopss…my bad…my bad…didn’t look at the signboard properly. As we were seated on the couch near to the place where the band was supposed to be playing later on, we read the long, long and I mean really LONG list of Spanish food and drinks in the dimly-lit place…

The menu

That’s me, having a tough time deciding what to order!

Okay, Angela settled for Sangria, I went for a Mojito and Hazel ordered My Ex Virgin. LOL! What a name! But…I was pretty disappointed that they don’t serve nachos. I mean, come on! You gotta serve nachos in Spanish restaurants! Sigh…it took forever to finally decide on this food called errr…okay I forgot the name. Anyway, while waiting for the band to begin, we played Scrabbles. Good gracious, I can’t remember when was the last time I played Scrabbles! Of all the words we can build in the entire universe, the FIRST word that Angela managed to come out with was a NEGATIVE one…

R. U. I. N.

ruin
Luckily nothing was ruined in the restaurant…hehehe

We took turns building the words…and I got stuck. So these wickedly helpful amigas helped me out…and it was totally ANGELA’s idea that she built this word for me:

sex1
Yeap, that’s a blank letter, and you can choose whatever letter you want

Wha’? Still don’t get it? Well, a little photoshopping might help…

sex2
LOL!

Though we all haven’t been playing Scrabbles for a long time, but I still remember some of the basic rules…such as, you can’t build words DIAGONALLY! Or if you were to stack them up on top of each other, the words must make sense! And you can’t build words like January or names of people or ABBREVIATIONS! HAHAHAHAHA!!! Yes, I said a lot of NOs to them.

“Eh no, you can’t build this!”

“Hey, you can’t put it like that!”

“Oiii! Mana boleh?”

“This is NOT an English word!”

“Eh kita bukan SMS-ing lar!”

“Eh where got like that one?!”

<** A basket full of hot tapas and chilled alcoholic drinks and curry were thrown at Perrinator by two angry chicas..(Hey wait a minute, where does the curry come from?! LOL!) **>

Many rounds later, when I finally got a break during my turn, I built this word, and this word DOES EXIST in the English dictionary…

goon
G.O.O.N. Ngiak Ngiak Ngiak!! :P

And then…when we came down to our last set of letters…we mixed around and tried to help each other out in making full use of the letters…and guess what? These witty ladies don’t give a rat’s ass about the Scrabbles’ rule and they came up with ‘words’ like this:

wrongwords
Can you spot the non-English words??

BEEZY. –> Oh. My. Kambing! Si Angela ni memang mabuk. BREEZY ada lar!

VH. –> Oh. My. Lembu! Ni siapa punya kerja? Hazel or Angela?

JK. –> Oh. My. Itik! Let’s see…Jangan Ketuk? Just Krap? Jantung Keras? Jaga Ketiak?

INC. –> Oh. My. Ayam! You can’t build abbreviation in Scrabbles!

PH. –> Oh. My. Otak!!! Ini kimia punya lesson! LOL!

Regardless…we had fun! Ohhh, it was waaaay after the scheduled time slot for the band to perform. So we played the childhood game that everyone knows…Donkey Card! And guess who lost TWICE in a row?

<** Drum rolls…thundering applause… **>

Señorita Angela!! LOL! And here’s her kind punishment.

loser1
The. Biggest. Loser. Asia. Cute, eh? LOL!

masks
Hazel can’t resist for another photoshoot with her wearing the face mask as well.

It was almost 10.15pm when the band finally started playing. My, I was surprised at how well that dude sings. Unfortunately, the two chicas had to head back as it was late and they both gotta work the next day (well, I’m on a long CNY break :P ) Oh well, 15 minutes of live jazz wasn’t that bad! ;) Ohhh, there’s a singles party on 24th February. So, if you’re single (even if you have a bf or a gf) and you’re NOT yet married, let’s hang out at this lounge again! There are games and prizes to be won!

<** Perrinator imagines winning a Grab-A-Hot-Spanish-Hunk game and the grand prize is an all-expense-paid trip to Spain for a month! Wohooo!!! **>

Thanks a lot chicas, for the great night out! ;)

I can’t help but to tell you about my 4th Spanish class yesterday! Why? Well…this is a SPECIAL edition because…the Spanish tutor wore a pretty TIGHT-FITTING BLACK T-shirt!! Madre mia!!!!!

<* Perrinator recalls that she almost fell off her chair yesterday when he entered the room casually with his usual friendly greeting in Spanish! *>

Yes, you could see his biceps (though it’s not toned!) and gosh, he has a pretty flat waist (no ugly bulging fats like mine)! That T-shirt of his was enough to distract my concentration AND keep my eyeballs wide open. I think I didn’t even yawn during the lesson! LOL!!!

<* Perrinator silently thanked God that she did not salivate during the entire 3-hour lesson *>

I seriously think he should wear something like that more often to keep us…okay wait, maybe not all of us, but at least to keep ME wide awake! But it could be a bad thing though, because it’s really meddling with my brain cells which control my concentration nerves! Oh well…the class went pretty well, it’s getting tougher as we move further into the lessons and it’ll be a helluva roller coaster ride next week onwards as the difficulty of the subjects increases even more.

So, right after my class, I immediately went home and began baking one of my favourite (and easiest) cakes of all – Banana Orange Cake! Well, that’s because I’ll be going over to my friend’s bf’s house for a steamboat dinner and I thought, hey, since they have not tried that cake before, why don’t I bake one for them? Yeap…I was lucky enough that I had plenty of buffer time to bake one. I actually baked one the day before but I wasn’t satisfied with the outcome, hence, after the class, I baked another one and voila! It turned out much better than the day before!

I also made them cookies…hmm…what should I call it? Strawberry Jam Cookies? It doesn’t matter anyway, coz’ apparently, they all like my cake (except for Sime who doesn’t fancy eating bananas!) and cookies and my goddaughter was delighted that she get the entire Tupperware filled with the cookies back home! Ahhh…so, here’s my favourite picture taken after our steamboat dinner!

Another Round Of Birthday Celebration

Posted by Perrinator on June 17, 2009 under Outings/Functions

Besides last week’s earlier celebration, I’ve another round of celebration with two of my dear old friends and another one, unexpectedly, with new friends at work. Here goes round two…ting ting! Since I am the most flexible in terms of working hours among the two of them, I’ve decided to drive all the way to PJ and meet them after work. Both of them work in PJ anyway, so it’ll be easier for them to travel to nearby restaurant/café without having to rush to the mad traffic city centre where my base at.

They recommended a restaurant called Fullhouse at this uhm, place called err…not sure about the official name but in Cantonese, it’s called Ngau Ceh Sui. I think it’s a Korean / Chinese / Western restaurant! LOL! Well, they do serve western and Asian food, and they even sell Korean clothes and accessories on the second floor.

I actually did a sloppy work in making Yin Lu’s eyes open! LOL!

After chatting and devouring the dinner for more than an hour, I thought they asked for the bill because they said “How come it took them so long?” Well, no wonder it took that ‘long’ because…what arrived wasn’t a bill but a piece of sinful yet delightful yummy-licous chocolate cake with a candle on top of it. Awww…thanks a lot, chicas!

fullhse1
Hollieee lembu!!! Look at how pale I am! Cis…I am forever and ever pale, amen…

fullhse2
At quick glance, you might have thought that I’m giving you the middle finger, but I’m not! I wasn’t ready yet when this picture was taken!

Clockwise from top left: Poh Ling with the matching pink doll; Browsing through the clothes; Poh Ling & I at the restaurant; Yin Lu & I at the restaurant.

And here goes round three! Ting! Ting! On my actual birth date, well…it’s kinda complicated to explain, but I’ll put it in simple words…at work, we are like, client-vendor with me being the vendor and they are the clients. But off work, we are…amigas! LOL! I don’t exactly have my own colleagues because one, I don’t work at my own office, and two, I usually work at the partner’s site or client’s site. So, it’s like, these project partners and clients are my ‘colleagues’.

We went for a movie after work and watched Monsters Vs Alien. It wasn’t that good, but it wasn’t that bad either. I’d say…so-so la. So, after the show, we were looking for a place to dine and I suggested food court! To their horror, and to my surprise, they said how could I celebrate my birthday at a food court? It should be at some better place. Well, I insisted on food court coz’ I didn’t want them to spend so much on me. One of them suggested that we go to Chilis but I beg them not to coz’ one, it’s expensive and two, I don’t want to be made to stand on the table, holding a tomato sauce bottle as a mike, making a speech in front of a crowd!

Thank God, the place was packed with people and there was a pretty long queue. In the end, they decided to go to Secret Recipe and I heaved a sigh of relief. Hehehehe. And yes, they bought me very unique gifts – a Monster Cookie balloon and a letter P decoration item. One of a kind! LOL!

sr1
Clockwise from top left: Hazelin and I (OMG, I soooo wanna poke her dimples!); Mawar and Amilia; Me with my unique gifts! LOL!; Giving a thumbs-up for the food!

sr2
Clockwise from top left: With the chocolate strawberry cake; Well, I made the SAME wish (get a Spanish hunk teacher!); Another sinfully delightful dessert; Everyone wants a piece of it!

sr3
Top from left: Hazelin with the balloon; Me & the yummy dessert; Mawar with the balloon.
Bottom from left: They insisted I pose for more pictures! LOL!; Amilia’s turn with the balloon; Sigh…another WTF moment! LOL!

Well, once again, to all my dear friends, thank you so so so much for the celebration, the gifts and yes, the phone calls and text messages! View the rest of the photos at my Facebook account. Adios!

A Double Birthday Celebration

Posted by Perrinator on June 14, 2009 under Outings/Functions

Our birthdays are only two days apart, so, as we always do every other year (since the year…uhmm…2006?), we celebrated our birthdays together and this year’s venue was at California Pizza, KLCC. We were supposed to celebrate at Luna Bar, but thanks to the blardee haze, it will be meaningless (and harmful!) for us to party the night away at an open bar, inhaling all those hazy air plus, the toxic air from smokers at the same time.

Gong Xi Fa Cai! Opps…I mean, Yay! Happy Birthday To Us!!

bdaypic5a
1…2…3…Get set, CUT!

bdaypic5b
We didn’t take pictures of the other two pizzas because we’re totally famished at that time and we devoured the entire pizzas within a few minutes!

Although it’s a weekend and every waiter and waitress were extremely busy, but it was really unfair to us that we had to wait almost an hour for the food to arrive! We were pretty upset that the family sitting next to us (who arrived like half an hour later than us) had their food served before us! Oh well, I guess all were forgiven when we received two complimentary desserts, two discount vouchers and a what? 10% discount off the total bill?

bdaypic6
We got this complimentary dessert from them, thanks to their bad service!

Handbag is this year’s birthday gifts theme for the five of us, so, Yuen Ling and I both got our handbags! Yay!

bdaypic7
There’s only white and pink colored bags, so…I’d rather take the white than the pink! LOL!

It was well after 10pm and we took this one before we bid adios to each other.

Now…there is this one particular picture that I gotta say…is EXTREMELY…uhh… EXTREMELY 18-SG rated?? LOL!! I’ll let you be the judge of that! It’s totally random, thanks to the Ah Mat Chai who caught this picture at an untimely manner…

A Superbly Belated Post!

Posted by Perrinator on October 1, 2008 under Blah Blahs, Outings/Functions

I am supposed to post this one somewhere in June…so sorry Yuen Ling, I posted our birthdays this late! That’s right, we celebrated our birthdays together (we were just two days apart) in a nice Spanish-Italian restaurant (I forgot the name!) at Sri Hartamas. We didn’t exactly plan which restaurant we’d go to, so I just parked my car somewhere within the Sri Hartamas vicinity and we went food-shopping. LOL!

Pui Sime and I were actually sick that time. But the world ain’t fair at all coz’ she was way much worse than me and still she looked good and I looked like a zombie, and there’s no special make-up effects to make me look like one! Humph!!

bday1
Now you know that zombie look!

We took a look at the menu and the prices were…phew…well, thanks to the increase in the fuel prices! Nonetheless, the four of us marched into the dimly lit restaurant decorated with interesting mural paintings, where we were served with what look like my ‘kind’ – a friendly Eurasian hostess! Yay! Now I’ve found a food place where lots of Eurasians gather! Most of the customers look like Malay or Indian, thanks to their dark skin tone. I bet they were all Eurasians!

bday2
Yuen Ling and Siow Lan checking out the menu.

bday3
While waiting for the food, these two ladies love the camera attention!

Though I can’t recall what we’ve ordered, but we thoroughly enjoyed it because the food was really nice! Perfecto! Oh, did I mention, that there was a live band playing?? Fantástico! We suddenly felt old when the singer belted out some good old ballads of yesteryears.

<* Scores of fiery Spanish spices are thrown towards Perrinator, followed by shouts of “WE’RE NOT OLD!” *>

Okay! Okay!! I’m the only one who felt old! Man, this dude can sing pretty well!

bday6
Mr. Red T-shirt and his band entertaining the crowd with wonderful ballads of yesteryears.

Yuen Ling and I both received Bodyshop gifts, and if you haven’t notice, this year’s birthday present theme for the five of us (Lay Yan couldn’t join us) are Bodyshop gifts. And all of our birthdays were celebrated in Western restaurants! :D

bday4
With our Bodyshop gifts.

Ladies, don’t you think we should start thinking of next year’s birthday theme? LOL!

bday5
Posing for the camera before we went home.
